Getting to the root of the problem
At Jamaica Reads, our focus is on helping every learner develop the skills they need to solve problems and to succeed in academia and life in general.
We identify weaknesses and gaps that are contributing to low grades, poor comprehension, lack of interest, and more, and we tailor our classes to address those factors.
We firmly believe that when a learner has a clear and solid grasp on foundational concepts, learning and understanding more complex concepts will be easier and even fun. We will not ask a child to spell a word unless he has developed great phonemic awareness and phonetic skills. A student will not solve simultaneous equations without first being quickly able to recall multiplication tables. You can't write an essay before you can write a well-structured sentence and develop a logical position.
Our classes are not "extra lessons". We correct what has gone wrong in the process and put students on a true path to academic success.
Students love to learn when they are not struggling. Our methods ensure that our learners are always relaxed and confident.
Private Classes
Students have the option of taking private reading lessons with one of our great reading tutors. Students can also choose other subject areas for which they want 1-on-1 instruction or assistance.
Please contact us if you would like to schedule private lessons with one of our superb tutors. Dates and times will be decided by both the tutor and the student or parent. Private lessons can be held on any day of the week.
Group Classes
Once signed up all students have automatic access to our group classes. Group sizes are generally small, five students or fewer in attendance. This provides additional practice and reinforcement of concepts learned, plus peer-to-peer interaction and even friendly competition.
Self-Study and Practice Software
Students who sign-up for our reading classes will be given access to an online, interactive platform with lessons, games, and exercises to teach, and reinforce the concepts learned in the classes. Assessments will also be done on this platform, and the tutor will be able to track activity and performance and identify areas where the student might need more attention.
Demo Lessons and observation
All our students are first seen in an observational demo class where we take the time to get to know and understand the student's strengths and weaknesses, goals, interests and personality. This helps us to take an individualized approach to our lesson planning and delivery, resulting in more rapid goal attainment.
Adult Classes Available
It's never too late to improve your reading skills. Our adult reading programme is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to read, or to get better at reading, for any purpose.
Our online classes allow you to conveniently fit classes around your schedule, and give you added privacy and more confidence.

We use proven Orton-Gillingham methodologies to deliver instruction led classes online to achieve exceptional results to all our students. Our multi-sensory approach appeals to all learners' individual styles - visual, auditory, tactile, or kinesthetic.
Our programmes focus on the five (5) components of reading and ensures mastery of each component so students can be strong independent learners when they have completed our programme.
